2024 is shaping up to be the year of the anti-trend according to this article by Homes and Gardens. They asked their readers their predictions on interior design trends for the year and were surprised to learn that most people were more interested in creating timeless characterful spaces than following trends. Most of the predictions felt more like classic interior design styles than trends. Homes and Gardens then got some extra insight from interior designers to find out why those styles are on the rise and how homeowners could implement them into their homes.
The first trend prediction was decorating with dopamine colors, which is all about picking colors that make you feel happier in your home. According to color expert Patrick O’Donnell, “We all need some joy in our life and what better way to do so than inject some color into our interiors.” Another popular trend was layering up different materials and textures. Sourcing vintage items while also supporting artisanal makers help to create a one-of-a-kind space. Other trends included elevating neutrals in order to create a tonal scheme that has plenty of depth, embracing pattern to add character to a room, and mixing vintage with current styles to create a sense of timelessness.
We can expect to see all these design trends throughout 2024 since they’re all about including more color, more pattern, and more personality. The key ‘trend’ for the year is timelessness and we are seeing a shift away from trends that come and go and are instead sticking with classic trends that have always been around in some form.
